15 Month Checkup

Today JT went for his 15 month well check- aka shot visit. JT did all of the routine things like getting down to his diaper for measuring, weighing and the once over by our wonderful pediatrician Dr. Holzen.

Here are JT's stats: Height 32.5 inches tall, Weight 27.6 pounds, and Head circumference 19.5. On the growth curve, JT was 85% in both height and weight, and 95% for his head. I think JT is going to be a big headed boy (all the better to hold that super smart brain in I say).

While we waited for Dr. Holzen to come in, JT kept plenty busy in the small room.

After JT was determined to be a very healthy, active toddler it was time for the dreaded shot time. JT had 3 regularly scheduled shots along with 1 flu shot. On top of the 4 shots, we discussed doing an allergy test on JT since he has shown he is allergic to peanut butter. So that meant a blood draw before the shots. :( I think JT did especially well for having to lay still and have his arm with the little elastic band squeezing his arm for a good 3-5 minutes as they found his little vein and drew almost a full vial of blood.  We should get the results sometime next week. Praying that there isn't anything else he is allergic to.

JT did so well with the blood draw until they removed the elastic band- I had kept him distracted with his "Pet the Animals" app on my phone- then JT totally lost it, lots of tears, poor little guy. Then we had to hold him down for another few moments to administer the 4 shots. Then I was able to comfort JT and calm him down before we left. However, the weakness in me did cause me to offer JT a Dum-Dum lollipop that was by the exit of the office. I think a little lollipop helped sooth JT's 5 pokes.

When we got home, JT was his usual self- playing, smiling, and making messes. He was hungry a bit earlier so I served him some leftover ravioli lasagna and he gobbled it up. Then, just like yesterday, he was OUT HARD- sleeping. I knew I had to clean him up because he was very "saucy". So I got a damp washcloth and surprisingly JT did not budge ONE BIT!!! Then I noticed when I picked him up his diaper was soggy (of course) so I laid him down to change and once again, did not move a single bit. I think his busy morning of pokes, crying, and appointments wore him out! He's still sound asleep- that's how I'm able to type this now and avoid doing some housework :)

Sleeping on the Job

I must admit, I do try to be oh so clever when thinking up of my blog titles. Some are better than others, this might be a bit of a stretch :) What is it that toddlers have to do for their job? I would say a basic list is : play, eat, make messes, poop, and sleep. There are others more sophisticated things like learning to talk, walk, crawl, sharing, manners,etc. :) I'm just going to focus on the basic list for today's post though.

JT was hard core in his working mode this morning. He was making tons of messes, trying to break into every single locked cabinet known to man (see earlier post for that info), climbing on to the side tables near the couch (with Mommy promptly getting him down and trying to "teach" him that tables are not a safe place to sit). In short, he was go, go, go from the time he woke up!

Then it was time for lunch. JT was very hungry signing "eat" and going into the kitchen. I think all of his "work" made for a strong appetite! As JT starts eating his yummy meal, his eyes start to glaze over and a sudden calm came over him... I could see it unfolding before my eyes- yep the boy starts to fall asleep while eating! I love it! So what do I do? I grab my cell phone and promptly hit "record". Precious moment that I'm sure will somehow embarrass him as he gets older.

I had to upload the video in two parts since my phone wouldn't let me email it to myself in it's entirety. Sorry you will have to endue a few moments of repeat performance in the second video. When it first starts, JT is finishing chewing his bite of food- rest assured his mouth was empty when I put him down in his crib :)

Little Sneak

JT is up to it again- breaking into the cabinets despite baby locks. The locks that we currently have actually work quite well. However, our little lock cracker knows that if he pulls outward on the plastic strips over a long period of time, the lock weakens and he is able to get the lock to open. This takes several weeks of effort,but for JT it is well worth the hard work.

Usually, I am able to hear when he has broken into the cabinets and if I call out his name, he tries to hide inside like he's doing nothing. When I go to peak on him, he will just be sitting there among the food and smile up at me like he's just hanging out doing nothing wrong.

Tonight, I herd him rummaging around again and I was able to get a video of our little sneaky lock breaker. I thought it was quite funny. I hope you do too.

Lip Sync Part 2

This Sunday, it was Lindsay's Small Group that performed. They chose to lip sync "Umbrella-Christ Remix" by Coffey Anderson. Coffey came about a month ago to our church and performed and sang for the middle and high school students. Coffey was also on Nashville Star, American Idol for country music, and he finished in 4th place, I believe.

Lindsay's group did a fantastic job with their performance! Their outcome was not the same as Courtney's group :( I think since they were up against the Middle School Pastor wife's group, they had a tough crowd  :p
I think they were easily 2nd behind that group. Next Sunday my Small Group performs, so look forward to another Lip Sync post in about a week.

Crazy Sleeper

Perhaps you will remember a month or two ago, JT has done a couple of cute things when he's sleeping. One was when he was holding the crib railing while sleeping. The second was when he had both of his legs sticking straight out of his crib, due to sleeping "width wise".

On Monday, JT manage to do both of these things at the same time! When he's sleeping, I will go in from time to time and check on him. I like to make sure he's not in a crazy position, getting into trouble,or just look at his precious little baby body resting peacefully.

When I saw how he was positioned, I knew it was a camera and blog moment! I only snapped a few since I needed to use the flash for the best picture. That would have been awful if the flash had woke him, but thankfully he is a pretty sound sleeper being the youngest of a six member family.

I did gently pull his legs out and side him "length wise" to finish his nap :)

Lip Sync Part 1

Our Student Ministry is always looking for creative ways  to energize the youth and keep the interest high in coming each week. Today, they kicked off the lip sync contest between the each of the Small Groups (Sunday School Groups). Every week, 4 groups perform a 1 minute segment from a song their group selected. The audience casts their votes by applause and the decibels are measured from an iPhone app the youth volunteer has (these phones can do everything!)
Today, Courtney's group (all 6th grade girls) went. They chose "Dancing with Myself" and they did a fantastic job! When the crowd "voted", they WON!!! Besides bragging rights, they also were awarded donuts and juice to enjoy during their lesson.

Lindsay's group will perform next week, followed by my Small Group that I teach in 2 weeks. The group that John teaches, performs in November, so it will be quite a while before we see his.

Delish

Last night, JT enjoyed his first ever ice cream cone. We all were having one for a treat and decided that JT could have his own cone with just a taste of ice cream in it. The cone was extra yummy because it was chocolate dipped on the top portion.

JT just sat down and licked, nibbled, and enjoyed this rare treat. As he ever does, JT provided for some excellent photos of this event.
